What does the X on my magnifier mean?

Magnifiers are a tricky subject! The “X” on your magnifier doesn’t necessarily mean how many times bigger an object will appear through the lens. It’s really just a measuring system. To make it even more confusing, European and American optical manufacturers use different systems. A 4X made by a European optical company is the same as a 3X made by an American one. Unfortunately, many less expensive magnifiers exaggerate the strength of their lenses. So that 5X magnifier you got at the drugstore might really only be a 2X!

If you’re struggling to find the right magnifier, feel free to give us a call at 1-800-458-4888. We’ll do our best to help and may try to help you find local assistance if necessary.
